Viktors Zeglovs, 34, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his friend, Vadims Zmicerevskis, 45. The fatal incident occurred on November 11, 2024, at the junction of Green Lane and St Thomas Road in Spalding, Lincolnshire. Zeglovs admitted to the crime, which involved using a broken rum bottle as a weapon.
The court heard that Mr Zmicerevskis was attacked shortly after attempting to de-escalate a fight involving Zeglovs. CCTV footage showed the fatal assault, which resulted in a deep neck wound to the victim. Despite the brutal nature of the attack, Zeglovs reportedly showed remorse, attempting to aid his dying friend and repeatedly asking about his condition.
Zeglovs, who was of no fixed address at the time but shared a Latvian background with the victim, will be eligible to apply for parole after serving a minimum of 11 years and 306 days. The judge emphasized the severity of the crime, noting it was a killing in broad daylight.
