Life Sentence for Widow's Murder, Body Never Found

In a rare legal decision, a Bengaluru court has handed down life sentences to two men for the 2021 kidnapping and murder of a 47-year-old widow. This landmark verdict was delivered despite the victim's body never being recovered by authorities. The convicts, Noor Ahmed S and Satyanarayana, were found guilty of orchestrating a contract killing over a property dispute.

The victim, Seetha Achar, lived alone and was involved in a disagreement over family property in Mantralayam. When she refused to sell her share, a plot was allegedly hatched to eliminate her. She was lured out of Bengaluru on March 26, 2021, poisoned with cyanide, and her body reportedly dumped into a canal in Hosapete.

The case, which remained unsolved for seven months, was cracked through call detail records. The investigation revealed a conspiracy involving four men, though two died before the trial. The prosecution faced challenges from witnesses who claimed to have seen the victim alive after her disappearance, but their testimonies were discredited during cross-examination.

Public prosecutor Shailaja Nayak reported receiving threats from the convicts following the verdict, highlighting the volatile nature of the case. The court detailed the conspiracy and the accused's attempts to mislead the investigation in its extensive judgment.
