Husband jailed for life for wife's murder, staged suicide
1 Mar
Summary
- A husband was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife.
- The court ruled the death was throttling, not suicide by hanging.
- The accused's attempt to stage the death as suicide failed.

A sessions court in Baramati has handed down a life sentence to Mayur Gorakh Gaikwad, a casual worker, for the murder of his wife, Pramila. The conviction, dated January 18, 2014, concluded that the death was not a suicide by hanging but rather a case of throttling.
The court determined that Gaikwad was guilty of murder and causing the disappearance of evidence. He had initially reported his wife's death to the Yavat police as a suicide, leading to an accidental death case registration. However, the victim's brother later filed a complaint alleging domestic abuse.
Medical evidence and prior complaints of assault by the deceased against the accused supported the prosecution's case. The court rejected the defense's claim of suicide and false implication, citing the accused's failure to explain fatal neck injuries and abrasions on his own body.
