In Lucknow, a special POCSO court has sentenced two men, Rameshwar Rawat (28) and Anuj Rawat (21), to rigorous life imprisonment. They were found guilty of kidnapping and gang-raping an 11-year-old minor. The conviction, which occurred on July 14, was achieved as part of the 'Operation Conviction' initiative.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹65,000 on each of the convicted individuals. Failure to pay this fine will result in an additional one year and five months of imprisonment. The court acknowledged the time already spent in custody during the trial.
This outcome is attributed to the coordinated efforts between the investigating team and prosecutors, specifically highlighting the sustained follow-up by Banthra police officials. Operation Conviction aims to expedite trials and boost conviction rates for serious offenses, particularly those involving women and children.
