Forest officials in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district successfully intercepted three individuals and recovered an intact leopard skin. The operation, conducted by a team from the Dhaudai forest range, took place near Gayatapara road.
During a routine patrol, the team noticed three men exhibiting suspicious behavior and stopped them for questioning. A subsequent search revealed a leopard skin being transported on two motorcycles. The accused have been identified as residents of Chhotedongar and Dhaudai.
The recovered pelt, measuring approximately 184cm, belonged to an adult leopard. The three accused were presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Narayanpur and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. A case has been registered under the Wildlife (Protection) Act.
This seizure is part of a broader, intensified campaign against the poaching and trafficking of wildlife derivatives, aligning with directives from the Chhattisgarh forest minister. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the origin of the skin and identify any potential larger trafficking networks.
