Lawyer Jailed for Rs 41 Lakh Fraud

In a significant development, Jaunpur police apprehended advocate Abhinav Singh on Sunday for allegedly defrauding a client of Rs 41 lakh. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Jaipal Sharma, a resident of Bikaner, Rajasthan.
According to police reports, Sharma had approached Singh in Varanasi to secure bail for his brother. Singh allegedly built Sharma's trust with claims of practicing at the Allahabad High Court. After assisting with bail procedures at the Varanasi sessions court on September 5, Sharma was en route to Jaunpur to collect money.
Investigation revealed that Sharma collected Rs 41 lakh from jewelry businessmen in Jaunpur. Singh and an associate, Updesh Pathak, diverted the route to a secluded area, stole Sharma's phone and the cash-laden bag, and abandoned him before fleeing. Sharma filed a complaint on September 18, leading to Singh's arrest and the recovery of Rs 35 lakh and a car.
Singh confessed to the crime, admitting to having spent Rs 6 lakh. Police are actively pursuing Pathak, who remains at large. The DIG has announced a Rs 50,000 reward for the arresting team.
