27 Aug
Summary
- Dayton Public Schools and city removed from wrongful death lawsuit.
- Lawsuit alleges RTA negligence in 18-year-old student's death.
- Trial against RTA for student's shooting is scheduled for next summer.

A civil lawsuit stemming from the 2025 shooting death of Alfred Hale III, an 18-year-old Paul Dunbar High School senior, has seen the dismissal of Dayton Public Schools and the City of Dayton. Hale was fatally shot near the Downtown Dayton RTA Hub while en route to school.
The wrongful death lawsuit, initiated in October 2025, now solely targets the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA). The family's attorney asserted that RTA was aware of and failed to adequately address crime issues at its downtown hub.
Court records confirmed the dismissal of DPS and the city on August 6th. The trial against the RTA is scheduled to commence next summer. Separately, Julius Williamson Jr. was convicted of Hale's murder and sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 28 years.
