Teacher Arrested for Alleged Assault During Wrestling Practice

Stephen William Boyle, a teacher and coach at Lake Norman High School, was arrested on Monday. He faces charges including misdemeanor simple assault and child abuse. The arrest stems from an alleged incident that occurred during a wrestling practice on school grounds.
The Iredell County Sheriff's Office was alerted by medical staff after a student sought treatment for injuries. Investigators determined that Boyle allegedly intervened in an altercation between students and struck the victim multiple times. Warrants were subsequently issued for Boyle's arrest.
Boyle was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in District Court on February 9, 2026. Lake Norman High School Principal Nicholas Allen has informed parents and stated that Boyle has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
