A brutal attack in downtown Los Angeles resulted in the death of an 84-year-old man. Lavonta Wilder, 40, who is described as homeless, has been charged with murder by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. The incident occurred on Sixth Street between Hope Street and Grand Avenue.
Prosecutors stated that Bang Cho, the victim, was sitting when he approached a passerby and then grabbed a bag carried by Wilder. Wilder is accused of then viciously assaulting Cho, including punching, kicking, and setting him on fire. Cho, who had dementia and was disoriented, had wandered from a convalescent home.
Wilder was arrested on Monday near the scene. Bang Cho died from his injuries on Monday at a hospital. LA County DA Nathan Hochman described the alleged violence as brutal and callous, vowing to pursue justice for the victim and his loved ones.
