Negotiations lasted for 25 minutes as deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation and convince Alfonso to surrender. During this time, Alfonso repeatedly told deputies to shoot him. The situation escalated when Alfonso ultimately pointed the handgun directly at the deputies, prompting one armed with a rifle to fire.
Following the shooting, other deputies rushed to rescue the unharmed child. Alfonso was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Sheriff's Department noted that Alfonso's handgun appeared to be broken, with its grip sheared off. The child was safely recovered and is unharmed.
