The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has reinstated a $20,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run. The incident tragically claimed the lives of Jose Palacios-Gonzalez, 42, and his 3-year-old daughter, Samantha Palacios, four years ago on March 1, 2022.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, Octavio Montano Islas, allegedly intoxicated, drove his 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck through the victims' apartment wall in North Long Beach while fleeing a nearby bar. The father and daughter were asleep inside their home at the time of the crash. Islas reportedly fled the scene on foot, leaving behind immense pain for the surviving family members.
Supervisor Janice Hahn emphasized the ongoing need for public assistance, stating that the loved ones of Jose and Samantha still await justice. The reward, initially $10,000, was increased to $20,000 by Supervisor Hahn after its previous expiration. The family, including Esnelia Palacios, the mother and wife, has endured unimaginable grief and is pleading for the public's help to locate Islas and ensure he faces consequences for his actions.
