Wife hires killers to murder husband in Kolkata

Rekha Majumdar, the wife of a West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) employee, was arrested on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in connection with a plot to murder her husband. Bikash Majumdar (52) survived an assassination attempt early Friday morning when two assailants on a motorcycle fired at him, but sustained only minor injuries. Investigators revealed that Rekha had allegedly hired contract killers to eliminate her husband due to his opposition to her extramarital relationship.

The police have apprehended four individuals in connection with the case. Rekha Majumdar is accused of orchestrating the murder plot. Her alleged paramour, Pradip Dey from Metiabruz, the alleged bike rider, Sushant Adak from Metiabruz, and the shooter, Md Samim Laskar from Basanti, were also taken into custody. All four have been remanded to police custody for five days following their production in a Barrackpore court on Sunday afternoon.

This incident highlights a dark side of personal relationships, where betrayal and violence took center stage. The motive appears to stem from Bikash Majumdar's attempts to end his wife's extramarital affair.
