Nightclub Assault: Man Arrested in Five-Star Hotel

A 24-year-old man, Mohammed Rafey Azim, was arrested by Pragati Maidan police in Kolkata for allegedly assaulting a woman at a nightclub. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday inside a five-star hotel located along the EM Bypass. The complainant, a 20-year-old woman, stated that Azim wrongfully restrained her, physically assaulted her, and used abusive language intended to insult her modesty. The accused and his associates reportedly fled the scene after the altercation.

Following an emergency call, police arrived at the hotel and, after collecting evidence with the hotel's assistance, registered an FIR based on the complainant's statement. Azim was arrested from his Tiljala Road residence around 11:40 am on Sunday. Police have registered charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to assault with intent to outrage modesty, causing hurt, and wrongful restraint. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts were made to obtain a response from the hotel administration.
