A brazen burglary occurred in Garia, Kolkata, resulting in the theft of R9 lakh worth of valuables. The targeted home belonged to a businessman and his wife, who had recently celebrated her birthday. Hours after the wife posted a picture with a Rs 5 lakh necklace gifted by her husband, a group of three thieves broke into their residence.
The burglars, appearing well-dressed and sophisticated, skillfully disabled the home's CCTV surveillance. Footage revealed them using leftover birthday cake to smear the camera lenses, a calculated move to obscure their identities. They also vandalized parts of the house, including a child's telescope.
Authorities suspect the social media post about the valuable necklace made the family a target. Police are investigating the incident, with the superintendent advising caution about oversharing personal moments online, as such information can alert criminals. No arrests have been made yet, but leads are being pursued.
