Airport police in Kolkata apprehended four individuals on Tuesday accused of touting and harassing passengers at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The arrests are part of an ongoing initiative to address passenger intimidation during the peak winter travel season.
The accused allegedly demanded exorbitant fares, significantly exceeding the standard rates offered by the airport's prepaid taxi service. Passengers who refused to comply faced threats, with the touts claiming to be the sole transport option. An on-duty officer intervened after receiving a complaint from a distressed traveler.
Authorities stated that enforcement operations would persist throughout the holiday period to ensure the safety and convenience of travelers. While four touts were detained, three others managed to evade capture.
