A district-level conference on child rights convened in Madikeri, Kodagu, organized by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the District Administration. NCPCR representative Shubhi Sharma reported significant achievements, including the resolution of over 32,445 complaints and the rescue and repatriation of thousands of children in recent months. She emphasized capacity building for district functionaries and highlighted initiatives for children's mental health, transgender child protection, and school safety.
Discussions also focused on the rising number of cases under the POCSO Act, with Smt. Shubha calling for collective responsibility. Concerns about excessive academic pressure and the promotion of healthy dietary habits among children were also raised. The conference sought to strengthen the implementation of laws like the Juvenile Justice Act and POCSO Act.
