Kochi City police recently incinerated a substantial quantity of narcotic substances, totaling over 700 kilograms, which had been seized over the preceding year. This significant destruction is part of the ongoing intensified anti-drug crackdown in the region. The operation took place at the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant following the acquisition of the necessary court orders.
The destroyed contraband included substantial amounts of ganja, approximately 2.6 kilograms of MDMA, 143 kilograms of Nitrazepam tablets, 1 kilogram of hashish oil, and 77 grams of brown sugar. District Police Chief Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar emphasized that incinerating such a large volume of drugs simultaneously was a strategic move. The intention was to convey a strong deterrent message to individuals involved in drug trafficking and to simultaneously enhance public awareness regarding the dangers of narcotics.
Kochi Mayor V.K. Minimol, who observed the process, assured the public about the safety protocols implemented during the incineration. She highlighted that the facility's filtering mechanisms are designed to capture any toxic substances, thereby preventing their release into the environment during the burning process, ensuring an environmentally sound disposal.
