Two swans have become victims of suspected catapult attacks in King's Lynn, Norfolk. The RSPCA is investigating the incidents, with an inspector calling them "one of the worst types of deliberate cruelty" encountered. The first incident involved an injured swan found on October 8th in the King's Avenue area. This bird had a ball bearing lodged in its skull, causing a fatal fracture. It was subsequently euthanized at East Winch Wildlife Centre to prevent further suffering.
Tragically, another swan was discovered dead in the same location. Examination revealed that this bird also had a ball bearing inside its body. The RSPCA has issued an urgent appeal for public assistance to help track down the individuals responsible for these horrific acts. The inspector emphasized that wild birds experience pain and fear, deserving respect and care, and highlighted the devastating impact such deliberate harm can have on individual animals and local wildlife populations.
