Jury Deliberates in Kieran Hayler Sexual Assault Case
20 Oct
Summary
- Kieran Hayler is on trial for rape and sexual assault allegations from 2016.
- He denies all charges, with alternative consent-based charges also considered.
- Jurors are now deliberating after closing arguments at Lewes Crown Court.
Jurors have commenced deliberations in the trial of Kieran Hayler, the former husband of Katie Price. Hayler stands accused of three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault concerning a 13-year-old girl in West Sussex back in 2016. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The defense has also presented an alternative set of four charges of sexual activity with a child, should the jury find that consent was present between the parties involved. The jury of eleven, consisting of six women and five men, was sent to deliberate by Judge Mark van der Zwart.
During closing speeches, the prosecution urged the jury to focus on the complainant's voice, while the defense barrister advised calm and rational consideration, cautioning against emotion clouding judgment.
