Khargone police have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of Dharmendra Jatav, a 36-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh. His body was discovered near a crematorium in Barud village on July 25, 2026. Jatav, who had been working as a mason, had reportedly left his home in October 2025 due to mental health issues.
Initially treated as an unnatural death, a postmortem revealed Jatav suffered a fatal skull fracture. Police now believe the motive was a robbery gone wrong. The arrested individual, Vikram Bhuriya, confessed to the crime, implicating three accomplices who are currently fugitives.
Authorities state the four men intended to steal fertilizer on the night of July 24-25, 2026. An altercation occurred with Jatav at the crematorium's entrance, leading to a fatal assault with stones and concrete blocks. The assailants then concealed the body before fleeing.
Investigators utilized CCTV footage, circumstantial evidence, and local informants to identify the suspects. Vikram Bhuriya has a prior criminal record, including charges for robbery, theft, and weapons offenses.
