KGMU to Recover Multi-Crore Scam Funds

King George's Medical University (KGMU) is preparing to recover millions of rupees allegedly lost to financial irregularities within its urology department. University officials confirmed that recovery proceedings will commence following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) concerning the scam, which is suspected to involve the diversion of funds intended for indigent patients.

KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh stated that the police have requested additional documentation, which the university is compiling for submission. An FIR will be registered once these records are provided, paving the way for the recovery of the misappropriated funds. The Chowk police station has requested inquiry reports and supporting documents from KGMU.

In response to serious lapses found in the handling of public funds for patient care, disciplinary actions have been implemented. The head of the urology department has been transferred, a pharmacist suspended, and the services of three ad hoc employees terminated. The university intends to recover misused funds from the agency that employed the dismissed staff.

Investigations into alleged irregularities in the radiotherapy, medical oncology, and surgical oncology departments are nearing completion. Expected findings may lead to further disciplinary, financial recovery, or legal actions if wrongdoing is confirmed.
