Kettering E-Scooter Crackdown: Police Seize Illegal Rides
17 Aug
Summary
- Police in Kettering are targeting illegal e-scooters and e-bikes.
- Privately owned e-scooters are illegal on roads and pavements.
- Only authorized rental e-scooters are permitted on public streets.

Northamptonshire Police have initiated a targeted operation in Kettering to address the issue of illegal e-scooter and e-bike usage. This comes after a previous operation in Corby, which resulted in the seizure of 23 e-scooters and two e-bikes.
The recent enforcement action aims to seize illicit scooters and issue citations to their riders. Police have issued a clear warning that privately owned e-scooters cannot be legally ridden on roads, pavements, or any public spaces. This prohibition is due to the inability to obtain insurance for such vehicles.
Only e-scooters provided by authorized rental companies are permitted for use on public streets. While e-bikes are allowed on roads, riders must be at least 14 years old, and the bikes must adhere to regulations concerning motor power and assisted speed limits.
