A special investigation team (SIT) has been established by the Home department to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into alleged organ trafficking and document fabrication within the state. District Police Chief K.S. Sudarsan will lead the SIT, following statewide raids that resulted in three registered cases.
The investigation has led to the arrest of Mohammed Najeeb, identified as the alleged kingpin, along with his wife Rasheeda and two associates. Police also confiscated forged letterheads, some bearing the names of MLAs, indicating a sophisticated operation.
Preliminary findings suggest that illegal organ transplant surgeries may have taken place at prominent hospitals in Ernakulam. Due to the gravity of the case, the Home Minister ordered the formation of an SIT headed by an officer of Superintendent of Police rank to ensure a thorough investigation.
