Tragedy has struck Kathua following a violent assault that resulted in the death of Nakul Singh and critically injured his 16-year-old brother, Nikhil Singh. The horrific incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the siblings were alone in their home in ward number 10 near Rajbagh. Their mother, a PHE employee, discovered them covered in blood upon returning from work.

Nakul Singh was pronounced dead at the scene, while Nikhil remains on a ventilator in critical condition at AIIMS, Vijaypur. Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and attempt to murder. A blood-stained cricket bat, believed to be the weapon used, was recovered from the crime scene. The attackers also appear to have stolen Nakul's mobile phone before fleeing.

A post-mortem examination of Nakul was conducted on Thursday in the presence of an executive magistrate at the Government Medical College, Kathua.
