A police constable in Karur, India, is facing an inquiry after an audio recording of her allegedly threatening and disrespecting a witness went viral on social media. Constable Parvathi of Thennilai police station contacted Subramani, a witness in a 2020 chain-snatching case, to appear in court for a trial scheduled for Monday. Subramani stated he could not attend due to a prior medical appointment, leading to an argument. During the conversation, the officer reportedly used informal and disrespectful language and threatened to jail him. The audio clip also revealed Subramani's assertion that only five of the seven-and-a-half sovereigns of stolen gold ornaments had been returned by the police. In response to the incident, Karur district superintendent of police Hari Kiran Prasad ordered an inquiry on Monday. Pending the investigation, Constable Parvathi has been temporarily transferred to the control room.
