A head constable in Kanpur has reported a fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 40 lakh from her bank account. The money was part of a term-insurance payout following the death of her husband, a police constable.
According to the FIR, the accused bank employee, Jyoti Bhaskar, allegedly colluded with other bank officials. The incident occurred at SBI's Phoolbagh main branch.
Radha, the complainant, had received Rs 60.4 lakh after a legal battle to secure the insurance proceeds. She intended to place the funds in fixed deposits.
She claims that when she visited the bank on May 22 to set up six fixed deposits, only two were created. She was allegedly told the remaining four would be done later to avoid TDS.
During subsequent visits to complete the fixed deposits, Rs 40 lakh was debited from her account in three transactions. Radha has filed a complaint with the Kotwali police station.
