Authorities in Kanpur's Barra police station area have successfully resolved a theft case amounting to approximately Rs 15 lakh, leading to the arrest of four suspects. The recovered loot includes stolen jewellery, cash, and foreign currency, with one accused still at large. The arrested individuals confessed to using a portion of the stolen funds to acquire a sports bike for Rs 1.5 lakh and to finance a trip to Manali.
The victim, a marketing manager from Barra-8, reported the theft after returning from a 20-day trip to Lucknow with his parents. Upon their return, they discovered their house lock broken and valuables, including jewellery worth nearly Rs 15 lakh, missing. The investigation, aided by CCTV footage and surveillance, led to the early Monday morning arrests near Patrasa bridge.
Investigations revealed a pattern of criminal activity, with Prakash Gautam having seven prior cases, Ishu and Abhishek Gautam three each, and Ajay Rajput one. The accused admitted to committing thefts to sustain their expensive lifestyles, with Ishu showing a particular interest in vehicles and spending Rs 13,000 on bike modifications. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the absconding accused and explore further links to other crimes.
