Debt-Ridden Bureaucrat's Suicide Linked to Moneylender Harassment

On the morning of October 10th, 2025, a shocking discovery was made in the Birbal Market of Jhunjhunu city. The body of Suresh Sain, an assistant administrative officer in the women empowerment department, was found hanging in the market's basement.

According to Sain's family, he had been troubled for the past few months due to harassment from moneylenders to whom he owed debts. A four-page suicide note was recovered from the scene, in which Sain named seven individuals as responsible for his decision to take his own life. In the note, Sain explained that he had repaid his debts, but the moneylenders continuously increased the interest, demanding crores of rupees, and refused to return his shop's registration papers.

Sain's brother-in-law found the basement door closed in the morning and, upon peeking inside, discovered Sain's lifeless body hanging. The Kotwali police were immediately notified and sent the body to the BDK hospital for a postmortem examination. Based on the family's complaint, the police have registered a case against the seven moneylenders named in the suicide note and have launched an investigation.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the primary cause of Sain's suicide was the financial pressure and harassment he faced from the moneylenders. This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the need for better regulation and protection for those struggling with debt.
