Jharsuguda police, through their special initiative 'Operation Netra', have successfully busted an inter-district drug trafficking network. Seven individuals were apprehended on Saturday for their alleged involvement in possessing and selling brown sugar (heroin). The arrested suspects are identified as residents of various areas within Jharsuguda and Rourkela.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team intercepted the group, recovering 12.48 grams of brown sugar. The seizure was conducted in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with an executive magistrate and witnesses present. Authorities also confiscated several mobile phones, cash amounting to Rs 1,550, and other items related to the drug trade.
Initial findings indicate that the apprehended individuals operated as part of a larger network. They allegedly sourced the drugs from one location and distributed them in different districts, reportedly with a focus on exploiting young individuals. The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation to identify all involved parties and dismantle the entire operation.
