On January 7, 2025, a JetBlue flight destined for San Juan encountered a dramatic incident when a passenger opened an overwing exit door while the aircraft was taxiing at Logan Airport.
The passenger, identified as Torres, reportedly opened the door after an argument with his girlfriend, who was also on board. He expressed a desire to leave the plane, leading to the deployment of an emergency slide. Crew members intervened and restrained him with flex cuffs.
JetBlue confirmed the flight was delayed due to the customer's actions. State Police were called to the scene and arrested Torres. The flight was subsequently switched to another aircraft and continued its journey to San Juan.
Torres's lawyer stated that his client was under severe distress and had a history of mental health issues, though he had not experienced an episode of this severity before. He claimed Torres had gone into a 'fog' and was shocked and embarrassed upon realizing what had happened.
