19 Mar
Summary
- Jennifer Pan pleaded guilty to manslaughter for a 2010 home invasion.
- She hired gunmen who killed her mother and wounded her father.
- Her father was allegedly abusive, treating her like property.

Jennifer Pan, now 39, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, concluding a 15-year legal saga. In 2010, she orchestrated a home invasion, hiring individuals to kill her father. Her mother, Bich Ha Pan, was killed in the attack, while her father, Hann Pan, survived but sustained serious injuries.
Pan described her father as abusive and controlling, stating he treated her as property. She apologized to her father, acknowledging her actions were delusional and irrational, and expressed profound sorrow to her mother for the loss. This case has previously been the subject of a book and a Netflix documentary.
Initially convicted of first-degree murder in 2014 and sentenced to life with parole in 2040, Pan's conviction was overturned in May 2023. The Court of Appeal for Ontario ruled the jury should have considered lesser charges. The Supreme Court of Canada affirmed this in April 2025, ordering a new trial.
Pan's guilty plea to manslaughter results in another life sentence, but with immediate parole eligibility. She acknowledged the foreseeable risk that her mother could be killed. Superior Court Justice Michelle Fuerst noted the aggravating circumstances of Pan initiating a murder-for-hire plot.
The plan involved Pan's ex-boyfriend, Daniel Wong, who connected her with Lenford Crawford. Crawford then enlisted Eric Carty and David Mylvaganam. The three men entered the Pan residence on November 8, 2010. Pan was present and tied up, while her parents were shot in the basement. It remains unknown who fired the fatal shot.
Co-conspirators have also faced legal consequences. Eric Carty, the getaway driver, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and died in prison in 2018. Daniel Wong was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to life. Lenford Crawford pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder. David Mylvaganam is believed to be one of the intruders.
Pan's lawyer argued she was heavily pressured and abused by her parents, working multiple jobs and extracurriculars. Her brother, Felix, spoke of the trauma caused by the media's intense focus on their family tragedy, which he felt turned their suffering into entertainment.
