A Kyoto resident, Kazunori Yokoi, 61, has been arrested for allegedly disrupting his neighbors' lives with excessively loud music for more than seven years. Since 2019, Yokoi reportedly played his dozens of guitars and radio at high volumes day and night.
This persistent noise led to sleep deprivation and depression for three neighbors in their 60s to 80s, while a fourth developed tinnitus. Despite prior official warnings, Yokoi's behavior continued, prompting the neighbors to seek police intervention.
Authorities measured noise levels exceeding 80 decibels in the area, comparable to being inside a moving train. Police confiscated over 40 guitars, along with audio equipment, from Yokoi's residence, leading to his arrest on assault charges.
