1 Apr
Summary
- Fundraiser for James Bulger's grave exceeded £23,000 after vandalism.
- Smashed cherubs will be replaced, remaining funds aid other families.
- Merseyside Police called the vandalism 'abhorrent and truly shocking'.

The family of murdered toddler James Bulger has expressed deep gratitude after a fundraiser, initiated after vandalism at his grave, exceeded £23,000. James was abducted, tortured, and killed in 1993 at the age of two.
In February, his mother, Denise Fergus, shared her distress when two cherub statues at James's grave in Kirkdale Cemetery were smashed. This act was described by Merseyside Police as 'abhorrent and truly shocking.'
Stuart Fergus, James's stepfather, stated that the outpouring of support, including messages and donations, demonstrated how many people still hold James in their hearts. The raised funds will replace the vandalized statues, with any surplus going to the James Bulger Memorial Trust.
No arrests have yet been made in connection with the vandalism.
