Judge Overturns Murder Conviction in Jam Master Jay Case
19 Dec
Summary
- Judge voided murder conviction for Karl Jordan Jr. nearly two years after jury verdict.
- The judge found insufficient evidence regarding Jordan Jr.'s motive for killing his godfather.
- Co-defendant Ronald Washington's acquittal motion was denied as motive was proven.

In a significant development nearly two years after a jury's verdict, a judge has overturned the murder conviction of Karl Jordan Jr. in the high-profile case of Jam Master Jay. The judge ruled that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence demonstrating Jordan Jr.'s motive for allegedly killing Jason Mizell, the influential DJ from Run-D.M.C., in his Queens recording studio on October 30, 2002.
Jordan Jr.'s legal team had contested the prosecution's narrative that the murder was committed in retaliation for a failed drug deal. Despite an eyewitness identifying Jordan Jr. as the shooter, the defense successfully argued against the motive. Although Jordan Jr. was not yet sentenced for the murder charge, he remains incarcerated awaiting trial for separate, long-standing drug charges.
