In Jaisalmer, a family's three-day protest ended Friday following the detention of twelve individuals. These detentions are linked to the alleged kidnapping and murder of 22-year-old Mahavir Singh in the Khuhri police station area. Investigators stated that Singh was intercepted on his motorcycle by more than 15 accused traveling in three vehicles. They reportedly abducted him, assaulted him to death, and later disposed of his body on the roadside, with the incident suspected to stem from an old rivalry.
The family had staged a sit-in protest outside the mortuary, demanding swift arrests. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare confirmed that multiple teams were formed to track the accused. Twelve individuals named in the First Information Report, including the primary suspect Hamir Singh, have been taken into custody, and three vehicles used in the crime were seized. Police utilized technical surveillance and raided suspected hideouts to apprehend the suspects, who allegedly avoided using mobile phones.
Search operations are ongoing to locate the remaining accused named in the case. The detained suspects are currently being interrogated, and further arrests are anticipated. Officials noted that these arrests have helped restore public confidence and led to the protest's conclusion. A medical board conducted the post-mortem examination, after which the body was handed over to the family.
