IVF Twins Swapped? Parents Await DNA Test Results
17 Jun
Summary
- Couple suspects baby swap after IVF treatment due to differing facial features.
- DNA tests in January indicated neither parent's DNA matched the twins.
- Authorities are awaiting independent DNA examination results from AIIMS.
Over two months ago, AIIMS collected DNA samples to investigate a Delhi couple's allegations of their IVF-treated twins being swapped. The couple, Rahul and Meenu Rathore, underwent IVF last year and began suspecting a swap shortly after the twins' birth due to distinct facial features. Private DNA tests in January reportedly showed no genetic link, prompting a court case and a police FIR.
As part of the probe, police have gathered CCTV footage and questioned clinic staff. An independent DNA examination was conducted at AIIMS in April, with results still pending. Doctors involved claim the couple was informed that no embryos could be formed from their genetic material and had consented to the procedure, a claim the couple denies.
The delay in receiving the DNA report from AIIMS and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is causing significant distress to the family. They are desperate to know the truth about their children's biological parents. The Delhi government's Appropriate Authority is also investigating the matter under the ART Act.
