10 Feb
Summary
- Armed assailants blocked highway with fire and fake police lights.
- Explosives detonated on armored van failed to breach its security.
- Two suspects arrested after police shootout during getaway.

A brazen daylight attempted robbery occurred on the main highway linking Brindisi and Lecce in Italy's Puglia region on Monday morning. A commando of at least six heavily armed individuals blocked State Road 613 near Tuturano by setting fire to a van and truck.
The attackers, some using vehicles with blue flashing lights to impersonate police, fired rifles and detonated explosives on an armored Battistolli Group van. Despite significant damage, the vehicle's internal security reportedly prevented any cash from being stolen.
Carabinieri units responded, engaging in a shootout with the suspects as they fled. Authorities temporarily closed the highway for investigations and debris removal. Two suspects were later arrested after a pursuit, while a manhunt for the remaining perpetrators is ongoing.
