Hamza Smajlovic has been sentenced to life in prison for a violent attack that occurred in November 2024. The incident began when Smajlovic choked his ex-girlfriend, Jasmyn Robison, prompting her to end their nine-year relationship.
Tragedy struck when Jasmyn's parents, Ruth and Tony Robison, arrived at the couple's Des Moines home to assist their daughter with moving out. Smajlovic then opened fire on the parents, killing Ruth and critically wounding Tony.
Smajlovic pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder in October 2025 and was formally sentenced on November 21, 2025. Jasmyn Robison addressed the court, expressing her regret over ever meeting him and the loss of her mother's time.
