Jail Raves & Drugs: Inmate's TikToks Shock Scotland
3 Apr
Summary
- Inmate filmed drug parties and violence inside HMP Addiewell.
- Victim's family calls videos 'torture' and demands action.
- HMP Addiewell faces scrutiny over scandals and security failures.

An inmate at HMP Addiewell, Ben McCulloch, whose father is a convicted murderer, has brazenly filmed and uploaded TikTok videos from within the Scottish prison. The footage, shared under the username 'HMP Ghost', depicts rave parties, drug use including Spice, and violent altercations among prisoners. McCulloch, serving time for the 2021 murder of Stephen Quigley, filmed himself and other inmates engaging in these activities, often with captions boasting about their jail lifestyle. These videos have caused immense distress to the victim's family.
Stephen Quigley's mother, Katie Quigley, has expressed outrage, calling the videos 'torture' and a sign of extreme lack of remorse from McCulloch. She has demanded immediate action to curb such behaviour, highlighting the pain caused to victims' families by inmates flaunting their criminal activities. The videos also appear to show illegal mobile phone use, alcohol consumption, and instances of prisoners being subjected to humiliation and assault while apparently under the influence of drugs.
HMP Addiewell, a Category A privately-run prison in West Lothian, has been previously involved in multiple scandals. These include the accidental release of 10 prisoners since 2015 and an incident in 2021 where an inmate filmed himself with a female prison officer. The circulation of such TikTok videos raises significant concerns about security protocols and the management of inmates within the facility, with similar content also found from other UK prisons.
