Prison Selfie Sparks Outrage From Victim's Family
9 Jul
Summary
- Victim's sister condemns inmate's prison selfie for lacking remorse.
- Shirilla, convicted of murder, posted a selfie from behind bars.
- The family urged an investigation into prison social media access.

Mackenzie Shirilla, who is serving time for the deaths of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan, has been criticized by Russo's sister for posting a selfie from prison. Christine Russo stated that seeing Shirilla, 21, with a full face of makeup and claiming fame while her family suffers daily is deeply painful and inconsistent with remorse.
Christine has called for an investigation into how Shirilla is accessing social media while incarcerated, questioning prison officials about potential rule violations. She encourages those who agree to contact the Ohio State Reformatory for Women and respectfully request the warden to investigate Shirilla's actions.
Shirilla was found guilty of multiple murder charges for the 2022 deaths of Russo, 20, and Flanagan, 19. They died when Shirilla drove her car into a brick wall at 100 mph. She was sentenced to two consecutive terms of 15 years to life and is ineligible for parole until September 2037.
Despite maintaining her innocence, Shirilla's legal team's recent appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court was denied. However, they have filed a new motion asking the court to reconsider its decision. As of July 7, 2026, the Ohio Supreme Court had not yet responded.
