High-Security Prison Imam Attack: Trial Date Set

A trial date has been scheduled for an inmate at a high-security facility accused of attempting to murder the prison's imam. Roderic Vassie was reportedly stabbed five times in the head and neck following Friday prayers at HMP Full Sutton in East Yorkshire on August 8, 2025.
The accused, Ahmed Alid, 47, faces charges including attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon within prison, and causing actual bodily harm. Appearing via video link from HMP Wakefield, Alid was informed by Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb that his trial will take place at Sheffield Crown Court on November 30.
During the hearing, prosecutor Philip McGhee informed the court that Alid, formerly of Hartlepool, had shouted words suggesting an ideological alignment with Isis. Alid is also accused of assaulting a prison officer at HMP Wakefield on October 21, 2025, after his transfer to that facility. He remains in custody.
