In November, a dog named Frankie was discovered tied to a gate at Saint John's Cemetery in Yonkers, New York, suffering from severe neglect. The 1-year-old mastiff-mix had a deep, infected wound on his neck, approximately eight inches long and one-and-a-half inches deep. He was also found to be emaciated and had been left without food or water for over three hours.
Frankie underwent a two-hour surgery to address his extensive injuries. Despite the trauma he endured, Frankie has made a full recovery and remains remarkably gentle, trusting, and affectionate. Anita Martin, 60, has been indicted on charges including aggravated cruelty to animals and abandonment. She pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for a court appearance in August. The investigation began on November 21.
