- The firm transferred Rs 6 crore as Earnest Money Deposit.

Mysore Mercantile Company Limited (MMCL) in Karnataka has been defrauded of Rs 6.3 crore by an individual impersonating an Infosys corporate social responsibility (CSR) regional head. The scam, which occurred between September 2025 and March 2026, began when Gagan N Deep approached MMCL with an offer of grants for their associated charitable trust.
To establish credibility, Deep sent a team to verify the trust's activities. Subsequently, MMCL was induced to pay an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of Rs 6 crore to vendors allegedly associated with Infosys. An additional Rs 30 lakh was paid in cash. The accused then provided fabricated sanction letters and grant agreements, promising over Rs 350 crore for housing and healthcare projects.
Upon realizing the falsity of the representations and the fabricated documents, the complainant suspected a scam. Despite follow-ups, the promised grants never materialized, and the funds were not returned. The accused has become unresponsive, leading to the registration of cases for cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
