29 Oct
Summary
- Melisa Hansboro, 54, found fatally shot in her home
- Ex-boyfriend Jerry Lewis convicted of her murder
- Hansboro was moving into new home when killed

On June 1, 2023, the body of 54-year-old Melisa Hansboro was discovered on the floor of her Indianapolis home. Her ex-boyfriend, Jerry Lewis, has now been convicted of her murder.
According to the investigation, Hansboro was moving into her new residence just hours before her 6-year-old grandson found her lifeless body. On the day of the incident, Hansboro's daughter and grandchildren arrived at her home and grew concerned when they found the residence locked and her car missing.
When the daughter tried to call Hansboro, she heard the victim's cellphone ringing inside the house, but it went unanswered. The family then entered the home, where they discovered Hansboro with a gunshot wound to the back of her neck. Gunshot residue at the scene indicated that the victim had been shot at close range.

Prosecutors revealed that Hansboro and Lewis were in the midst of a breakup when the tragic incident occurred. Lewis was present in Hansboro's home when the two got into an argument, which ultimately led to her murder.
After killing Hansboro, Lewis went to a friend's place and asked to be taken to the police station, claiming that he had "messed up his life." A jury deliberated for just 31 minutes before convicting Lewis of murder following a three-day trial.
"The jury's swift verdict is a reflection of strong investigative work and a trial team determined to get this family the justice they deserve," said Prosecutor Ryan Mears.
