A 35-year-old man from Sribhumi district, Assam, identified as Balai Namasudra, has been apprehended by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Namasudra had been reported missing by his wife, Mamata Namasudra, after he failed to return from his usual fishing trip near the border on Thursday morning. His wife stated that she was contacted via WhatsApp by an individual in Bangladesh requesting personal documents, claiming Namasudra had entered the country illegally.
According to the BGB, Namasudra was detained on August 27 at the Kumarshail border area in Moulvibazar. During the apprehension, BGB officials reported seizing a foreign-made pistol, two rounds of .22-bore ammunition, and 500 Yaba tablets. Local villagers recalled a similar incident eight years prior when another village resident was detained by the BGB and held for a year before release, highlighting a historical pattern of such cross-border detentions.
