A female engineering student was assaulted on the IIT-Palakkad campus earlier this week, an incident that occurred around 7 PM on February 23rd. The student, who was slightly behind a group walking between buildings, sustained a head injury. She is currently recovering in a private hospital in Coimbatore after undergoing surgery for a forehead injury.
Authorities have recorded the victim's statement, during which she mentioned seeing an individual in a blue shirt. Investigators are examining available CCTV footage and the lack of cameras at the attack site. A special police team has been formed to apprehend the assailant, with suspicions leaning towards someone from within the campus.
In response, IIT-Palakkad has announced plans to install additional CCTV cameras, augment security patrols, and encourage students to use campus transport for their safety. The institute's medical officer provided immediate first aid before the student was transferred to a hospital.
