An FIR has been registered regarding the death of an IIT Delhi PhD scholar who passed away at AIIMS on Saturday. This development comes more than 45 days after the scholar was found unconscious and injured at his rented residence in Munirka on August 18. The case has been booked under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, pertaining to abetment of suicide, based on a complaint filed by an IIT Delhi security officer.
According to police statements, neighbours had to break open the door of the scholar's rented house, which was locked from the inside, after he was discovered. He was subsequently moved to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he remained under medical care until his passing on October 3. Police have clarified that the incident did not take place within the IIT Delhi campus premises. Initial investigations and CCTV footage from outside the house indicate the scholar was alone at the time of the incident. Neither the scholar's family nor any witnesses have raised suspicions or made allegations against any individual concerning the events that transpired. The FIR was registered as per the directions of the Supreme Court, and further investigations are ongoing.
