A woman from Felixstowe, Suffolk, has fallen victim to identity theft, with fraudsters using her likeness to sell at least £15,000 worth of fake festival tickets. The scam began when the victim, Carra Seeley, shared an image of her driving licence during a video call with a prospective ticket buyer. Within hours, the buyer vanished, and numerous fake social media accounts impersonating her appeared, advertising tickets for various festivals.
These fraudulent accounts used a screenshot of Seeley holding her ID as a "proof" to collect between £200 and £300 per ticket, ultimately failing to deliver any actual tickets. The beauty business owner subsequently received threats and messages accusing her of fraud from individuals across the UK and beyond. Some even tracked down her home address, leading to concerning confrontations.
Suffolk Police investigated the report of identity misuse and the subsequent arrival of individuals at her home. However, they advised Seeley to report the matter to Action Fraud, stating no direct threat to her safety had been made. Action Fraud indicated they could only assist if Seeley's own money was acquired through fraud, which was not the case. The situation has left Seeley feeling cautious about her social media presence.
