A domestic disturbance in Ammon, Idaho, on January 6 led to the arrest of Carlos Swearingen, 23, on multiple felony charges. Deputies responded to a call reporting a disturbance at an apartment, where they found a woman fleeing with two crying children. The woman reported Swearingen had been drinking all night.
According to charging documents, Swearingen became enraged after reading mail and threatened family members. When the woman intervened, he allegedly threw a bowl of hot soup, dumplings, and chili oil at their 3-month-old baby. He then reportedly attacked the mother, rubbing hot chili oil in her eyes, striking her, and putting her in a chokehold.
Swearingen was booked into Bonneville County Jail with a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on January 20 and could face up to 26 years if convicted. A no-contact order has been issued for the victim, and it remains unclear if Swearingen has legal representation or entered a plea.
