An off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer is involved in a fatal shooting that occurred late on New Year's Eve in Northridge, Los Angeles. The federal agent reported hearing what he believed to be multiple gunshots from his apartment.
Responding to the sounds, the officer exited his residence with his service weapon and encountered a man armed with a long rifle. According to officials, the officer identified himself as law enforcement and ordered the individual to drop his weapon, but the subject allegedly refused and fired shots at the officer.
The officer then returned fire defensively, striking the subject. LAPD officers arrived to find the man deceased at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility is cooperating with the Los Angeles Police Department in a joint investigation.
